It’s Show Time!

26 Aug

What’s up DH Crew!!! With Labor Day Weekend just around the corner, I’m sure you have already planned your days basking in the sun, but why take the party inside once the sun goes down? Why not keep your guests entertained outdoors with a cool comfy and cozy night at the movies, just in your own backyard?

It’s easy to do….now you don’t have to be this extravagant (although this does seem inviting), just use some simple items you already have at home. Try using existing outdoor furniture you may already have and spruce it up with extra pillows, after you’ve cleaned and wiped it down of course. Wanna go for that Mediterranean look? Use your outdoor cushions and pillows or a blanket and sprawl out on the lawn.

Candles are a cheap and easy accent to really turn the volume up on this movie night! They even make Citronella candles to keep away those pesky mosquitos that can make or break the evening. While not only giving you extra light to see where your going, they add ambiance and can help people see where they’re going and avoid stepping on something or someone.

Don’t forget to have some sort of snack sustenance. This is the easiest part. It’s outside, on the lawn, so who cares if people drop things? Pack a bunch of sodas or your favorite libation in a cooler or ice filled bucket. Set out some bowls of popcorn, chips or candy. I’m sure you could spend just as much for your guests as you would yourself and a date at any movie theater!

Saving the best for last, borrow or pick up a projector. Most electronic or big box stores carry them in some form and you can use them for work/school projects or to entertain at your next party (everyone has a friend or two who loves to show vacation photos right, right?) All you need now is a sheet. Prop it up using an existing clothesline or make one yourself with some rope and a nearby tree. Hope this gets your creative juices flowing! Stay Dope!

Nothing’ Like the Real Thing Baby…

The other day, through some random banter with friends over cocktails at a charity event benefitting children’s literacy, the conversation turned to our favorite children’s book. Unanimously, Shell Silverstein’s “Where the Sidewalk Ends” fell from the lips of almost everyone.
I soon found myself hitting the iBook application and downloading a copy. After reading and reminiscing for about a half hour or so, I still felt somewhat unfulfilled. There was something major missing… an actual physical copy. I had to have one.
Thus, here we are! Go and pick yourself up one. This is probably one of the dopest and most timeless reads of all time.

Stay Dope!!!
